About us

The name Princess Farms comes from my ancestry, I am directly descended from Scottish Royalty, so I am a real Princess. People who know me usually suggest it is something other than my ancestry!

The princess and her flockI am a self admitted fibre crazy, I’d like to say I could stop if I wanted to, but I am afraid to say that is no longer true. I spin, felt, weave, dye and shop incessantly. I am also learning to rug hook and knit.

We moved to SK Aug 05 and within a week I had my first 12 cashmere goats. The next step was to get 2 livestock dogs to protect them from coyotes and the like.

Oct 05 we were at a farm show/exhibition and my husband kept asking me what I wanted for Christmas... I can't see This was my first alpaca, I think my husband was thinking more along the lines of a piece of jewellery which did not require housing, feeding, shearing etc. etc. Well I couldn’t have just 1 alpaca, we had to get him a friend.

Then followed a lull in animal numbers (apart from another livestock dog, but that doesn’t really count, right?) which strangely coincided with my absence from the country.

Then the baby goats started coming, 17 in a week, followed later by another 2. Now I understand why for the first week whenever I saw my buck he was lying down! At the time Stop it - it ticklesI asked him what was he doing slacking off when he had a job to do.

In June 06 I was innocently looking at a horse with not intention of buying her. She came to me in a deal I could not refuse, what can I say in the words of Oscar Wilde - I can resist anything, but temptation.

At the beginning of July my horse arrived along with a few animals that happened to ‘fall’ into the trailer, namely 2 female alpacas, 2 male alpacas, 3 baby alpacas (crias) and a baby llama. One of the alpaca babies was an orphan, so I just had to take her.

I am thinking I need a couple of Angora goats Cashmere kidsand a few more alpacas, then I’m done honest! My husband is about to slap me with an animal embargo, no more animals for the duration!

Oh, then of course I am hoping to breed my Akbash dog next year, but naturally have no plan to keep any of the cute, tiny puppies which we need to guard the extra land we have to buy to fit all the animals in! My guinea pig is still the most likely animal to bite me, and this from a ferret owner!

Happy shopping!
